Karen Cain has built a diverse and impactful career across real estate, non-profit work, municipal government, and community service. Her professional journey began with nine years in the real estate industry, where she worked as an escrow officer and gained extensive experience with mortgages. She then transitioned to the nonprofit sector, spending four years writing and managing annual grants.

For over two decades, she served in municipal government, dedicating 23 years to the City of Pontiac. Thirteen of those years were spent as an executive assistant in the Department of Public Utilities and the Economic Development Department. She then served for ten years in the Mayor’s Office, both as an executive assistant and as an Assistant to the Mayor.

Throughout her career, she developed a strong skill set in budgeting, financial analysis, effective communication, and strategic planning. These skills were particularly valuable during her nine-year tenure as an elected Trustee on the Pontiac Board of Education. During that time, she played a key role in the Board’s efforts to consolidate, reorganize, and eliminate over 65% of the school district's deficit.

Her commitment to community engagement is equally extensive. She has served as Secretary of the North Oakland NAACP for four years and as Assistant Secretary of the NAACP State Conference for Michigan. She has also successfully managed multiple political campaigns, including two County Commission races and a mayoral campaign in Pontiac—all of which resulted in victories for her candidates.

In addition, she has served on various boards and committees on behalf of the Mayor of Pontiac, was a Trustee on the Pontiac Board of Education for nine years, and served as Board Secretary of the Pontiac Alumni Foundation for eight years.

Although her formal education culminated in a high school diploma, she has completed over five years of college coursework and specialized training. Her life and career serve as a testament to the power of a strong public school education and lifelong learning.
